Peach Payments, l’un des principaux fournisseurs de solutions de paiements en Afrique, a fait l’annoncer de la nomination de Uways Kureeman comme Country Head et Directeur pour Maurice. Uways travaillera sous la direction de Sandeep Chagger, précédemment Country Head et Directeur, assumera le rôle de Directeur des Opérations du groupe en tant que Group Chief Operating Officer.

Depuis février 2023, Sandeep Chagger occupe le poste de Group Chief Operating Officer, après avoir assumé les fonctions de Country Head et Directeur pour Maurice pendant deux ans à partir de juillet 2021.
Depuis lors, Sandeep a assumé les deux rôles simultanément, le temps que Peach Payments trouve le candidat idéal pour le remplacer. Uways Kureeman, précédemment chez ICL, a maintenant été nommé pour prendre la relève.

Détenteur d’une licence en informatique, d’un MBA et d’un MSc en Intelligence Artificielle, Uways possède une vaste expérience en tant que cadre supérieur chez Island Communications Ltd (ICL) et il excelle à traduire les objectifs stratégiques en actions concrètes et efficaces dans le domaine commercial.
Ses capacités de leadership et de gestion d’équipe se sont développées à travers la gestion tant locale que distante. Uways est réputé pour son esprit innovant et son expérience solide en gestion de projets, acquise dans divers secteurs d’activité. Il a commencé sa carrière comme ingénieur logiciel et a progressivement évolué vers la gestion de produits, de projets et d’opérations.
Uways Kureeman, le nouveau Country Head et Directeur pour Peach Payments Maurice a déclaré :

Il a également ajouté: “;En ce qui concerne le soutien de la communauté à la numérisation, je suis conscient du vieillissement rapide de notre population et je suis particulièrement déterminé à aider ceux qui ont des ressources limitées, un accès restreint ou des difficultés en matière d'alphabétisation. Je suis fière de diriger un programme avec un groupe composé à la fois de jeunes et de personnes âgées à Curepipe, ici à île Maurice, sur l’utilisation des technologies essentielles dans leurs tâches quotidiennes, telles que la banque en ligne, le paiement en ligne des factures, etc.”
Le récent / dernier budget mauricien a mis en place plusieurs propositions visant à renforcer le statut de l’économie de l’île en tant que hub régional de la FinTech, notamment en travaillant sur un plan « blueprint » pour le secteur FinTech en collaboration avec la Commission Économique pour l’Afrique des Nations Unies.
Dans ce contexte, la présence d’entreprises leaders africaines telles que Peach Payments dans ce domaine est un bon indicateur de la croissance du secteur FinTech à Maurice. De plus, la présence de ressources locales dévouées comme Uways à la tête du bureau de Mauricien témoigne de l’engagement de cette passerelle de paiement en plein essor à renforcer sa présence dans l’économie insulaire.

Leading African payment solution provider Peach Payments announce that Uways Kureeman as its new Country Head and Director for Mauritius. Uways will be reporting to the outgoing country head and director Sandeep Chagger, who is now moving fully into his incumbent role as Group Chief Operating Officer.
After two years as Country Head and Director for Mauritius since July 2021, Sandeep Chagger took on a new role as Group Chief Operating Officer in February 2023.
Since then, Sandeep has balanced both roles while Peach Payments searched for a suitable candidate to step into his shoes. Uways Kureeman, previously of ICL Mauritius, has now been appointed to succeed him.
Commenting on these leadership changes, Sandeep Chagger, Group Chief Operating Officer, Peach Payments, notes:

A graduate in computer science with an MBA and an MSc in artificial intelligence, Uways brings with him a wealth of experience as a seasoned senior manager at Island Communications Ltd (ICL), and is adept at translating strategic objectives into business initiatives.
His strong leadership and people management skills have been honed through managing both local and remote teams. He is an innovative thinker and experienced project manager, having worked across different business industries. Starting as a Software Engineer, he has grown into products, projects, and operations management.
Newly appointed Country Head and Director for Peach Payments Mauritius, Uways Kureeman said:
“With 12 years of experience in different technologies, I am now ready to dive into the world of digital payments. What really excites me about my new role is that I have always been passionate about promoting the use of IT tools, and working for a leading payment solution provider such as Peach Payments allows me to explore my passion while helping the Mauritian economy to reach the next threshold of digitalisation.”
He added:
“Mauritius has an ageing population and I feel that this segment of our society can benefit the most from digital payments and tech literacy, and we have a responsibility towards them in easing access towards products and services and creating convenience through ecommerce and online payments. Here, I am excited to be running a programme with a group made up of both youth and elderly people in Mauritius, on how to use essential technologies for functional daily tasks, like online banking, online utility bill payments, etc and my role with Peach Payments will help solve for them.”
For the way forward, the recently declared Mauritian Budget has put in place several proposals to reinforce the status of the island economy as a regional FinTech hub, including working on a blueprint for the FinTech sector with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.
