Severe Weather Bulletin for Mauritius

In the wake of tropical system Gamane, a moist and unstable airmass has settled from the east coast of Madagascar up to around 60 degrees east. On the satellite imagery, this is depicted by active clouds to the north of the Mascarene Islands.

The clouds to the north and northwest of the Mascarenes will be entrained over our region by a persistent mid-level airstream. Thus, the airmass over our region will become gradually unstable and may trigger other active cloud developments in situ. This weekend, the weather will be cloudy to overcast with showery thunderstorms, becoming moderate to heavy at times.

Saturday 30 March:
Cloudy with scattered showers in the afternoon. The showers is likely to be moderate to locally heavy with thunderstorms. The thundery showers may become more frequent at night and may cause water accumulation in the usual places and local flooding in flood-prone areas.

31 March and 2024


Sunday 31 March and Monday 01 April:
Cloudy to overcast with widespread showers over the whole Island. The showers are likely to be moderate to heavy with isolated thunderstorms. The showers will be more frequent over the high grounds, to the West and the Northwest. The heavy showers will cause water accumulation in the usual places and local flooding in flood-prone areas.

The public is advised to take all precautions, especially in risk areas.
