Le dimanche 13 octobre 2024, le Groupe Réfugiés Chagos (CRG) a tenu une réunion spéciale ouverte à tous les Chagossiens résidant à Maurice, qu’ils soient membres ou non du CRG.
Plus de 300 personnes, dont 190 natifs, étaient présentes à cette réunion cruciale pour l’avenir de la communauté chagossienne.
Lors de cette réunion, un vote a été pris à l’unanimité pour donner au CRG, sous la présidence d’Olivier Bancoult, un mandat clair et officiel pour représenter les intérêts de l’ensemble des Chagossiens, tant les natifs que leurs descendants. L’assemblée a également exprimé son soutien aux propositions faites le 3 octobre 2024 dans le cadre de l’accord entre les gouvernements mauricien et britannique, tout en insistant sur la sauvegarde des droits des Chagossiens.
Une décision clé de cette réunion a été de faire parvenir officiellement cette position commune aux gouvernements britannique et mauricien. À cet effet, une lettre a été déposée aujourd’hui à la Haut-Commissaire britannique à Maurice ainsi qu’au bureau du Premier ministre mauricien.

On Sunday, October 13th, 2024, the Chagos Refugees Group (CRG) held a special meeting open to all Chagossians living in Mauritius, whether members of the CRG or not. Over 300 people, including 190 natives, attended this important gathering to discuss the future of the Chagossian community.
During this meeting, a unanimous vote was taken to give the CRG, under the leadership of Olivier Bancoult, an official mandate to represent the interests of all Chagossians, both natives and their descendants. The assembly also voiced its support for the joint proposal made on October 3rd, 2024, reflecting the agreement between the Governments of Mauritius and the United Kingdom, while stressing the importance of safeguarding Chagossian rights.
A key decision from this meeting was to officially communicate this unified position to both the British and Mauritian governments. Accordingly, a letter has been delivered today to the British High Commissioner in Mauritius and to the office of the Mauritian Prime Minister.
