Hosts Mauritius will have experienced coach Kofi Kawata in charge as they plot a first ever COSAFA crown during the Women’s Under-17 Championship that will be staged from September 20-29.

Kawata will be charged with putting together a squad capable of going deep into the competition as Mauritius aim to use home-ground advantage to the fullest.

He was also in charge of the Mauritius senior side that competed in the COSAFA Women’s Championship in Nelson Mandela Bay in August, where the team battled, losing all three games and conceding 26 goals without scoring any.

But he will hope for better results in the inaugural Under-17 competition, where Mauritius are in Group A.

They open their campaign against Comoros on September 20, before a meeting with East African guest nation Uganda two days later. They finish their pool play against Zambia on September 24 in what is a difficult group.

Kawata, who hails from the Democratic Republic of Congo, was recently installed as coach of Lady Club M, having previously worked in the Mauritius Super League with ASPL 2000.
