Labour force, Employment and Unemployment for 2nd Quarter 2019

Among an estimated 996,300 Mauritians aged 16 years and over in the second quarter of 2019, around 592,900 were in the labour force (economically active), with 553,800 employed and 39,100 unemployed (13,400 males and 25,700 females). The remaining 403,400 persons were outside labour force.

The unemployment rate for the second quarter of 2019 is estimated at 6.6%, lower than the rates of 7.0% and 6.9% at the second quarter of 2018 and at the first quarter of 2019 respectively.

Unemployment rate for the year 2019 is forecasted at 6.8% compared to 6.9% in 2018.
