Export Oriented Enterprises for 3rd Quarter 2019
1 min readEOE consist of enterprises previously operating with an EPZ Certificate as well as enterprises manufacturing goods for exports and holding a registration certificate issued by the ex-Board of Investment.
Compared to the second quarter of 2019, total employment in EOE decreased by 898 (-1.9%) from 46,548 to 45,650. Some 275 jobs were created due to expansion in existing enterprises whilst 1,173 jobs were lost due to the contraction of workforce and closure of enterprises. Employment of Mauritians went down by 428 (-1.7%) from 25,335 to 24,907 and that of foreign workers decreased by 470 (-2.2%) from 21,213 to 20,743.
EOE exports during the third quarter of 2019 amounted to R 10,692 million, 6.7% lower compared to the second quarter of 2019 and 7.6% lower compared to the third quarter of 2018. EOE imports during the third quarter of 2019 amounted to R 6,120 million, 1.2% lower than the second quarter of 2019 and 7.9% lower than the third quarter of 2018.
