Other active clouds associated with an instability zone are approaching the island from the North-West and will start to influence the weather over the island late evening with likelihood of localised heavy rainfall and isolated thunderstorm.
There will be widespread rainfall. However locally heavy rain are expected mostly to the north, west and over central plateau
Some of the highest rainfall recorded in different regions during the past 12 hours until 16h00:
Champ de Mars (Port Louis): 56 mm
Mon Loisir Sugar Estate: 37 mm
Bambous Virieux: 70 mm
Plaisance: 65 mm
St Felix: 59 mm
Le Morne: 35 mm
Rivière Noire: 48 mm
Moka: 88 mm
Grand Bassin: 66 mm
The public is advised to:
1. During thunderstorms, the public is advised to remain in safe places and to avoid open areas, hikings, ventures at sea and not to shelter under trees.
2. Avoid places prone to water accumulation, river banks and other water courses which may be flooded and certain mountain slopes prone to landslide
3. Be very cautious on the roads due to reduced visibility resulting from heavy rains and fog patches.
A heavy rain warning is in force in Mauritius and is valid until 05h00 Friday (27 01 2023) morning.
