The airmass over the region is moist and unstable which is very conducive for the formation of active clouds over the island in the afternoon.

Thus, showers,moderate to locally heavy at times accompanied by isolated thunderstorms, are expected over the Eastern part, to the North and over the Central Plateau.

Heavy Rain Watch for Mauritius issued at 04h30 on Monday 30 January 2023 valid as from 1200 hours till 2000 hours today

A Heavy Rain Watch is in force in Mauritius.

The public is advised to:
1. During thunderstorms, the public is advised to remain in safe places and to avoid open areas, hikings, ventures at sea and not to take shelter under trees.
2. Avoid places prone to water accumulation, river banks and other water courses which may be flooded and certain mountain slopes prone to landslide.
3. Be very cautious on the roads due to reduced visibility resulting from heavy rain and fog patches.
