The Government of Mauritius has taken good note of the Human Rights Watch Report ““That’s When the Nightmare Started”: UK and US Forced Displacement of the Chagossians and Ongoing Colonial Crimes”, which has been published today ( 15^th February 2023).

The Government of Mauritius expresses its thanks to Human Rights Watch for the extensive research work it has carried out and will carefully consider its recommendations.

The Government of Mauritius has always maintained that the forcible displacement of the entire Chagossian community was a terrible wrong, and that justice must be done. It reiterates its commitment to the implementation of an effective and speedy plan for resettlement in the Chagos Archipelago.

All individuals of Chagossian origin, wherever they live in the world, who wish to resettle in the Chagos Archipelago will be able to do so in accordance with the laws of Mauritius.
