Côte d’Or National Sports Complex announced that Julie Gopal, one of the most remarkable and talented players of the Liverpool Football Club International Academy Mauritius, will be heading for a trial at the renowned Brest Football Club, Stade Brestois 29 in Britanny, from 3 to 9 April 2023.

In close collaboration with David Martinache, football agent from Nash Football based in Mauritius, this amazing opportunity has been created for Julie to travel to the Hexagon. The 7-day trial will see Julie train with the first team squad who evolve in Ligue 2 and she will have the chance to impress the team managers with the hope of securing a pre-professional contract for when she turns 18.

Head Coach of LFCIA Mauritius, hailing from Liverpool, Neil Murphy reveals,

“One of the key focuses of LFCIA for 2023-25 is to create overseas opportunities for the most talented football players of the club to showcase their abilities and to try securing professional contracts off the island in professional football clubs. Connected to this, this flow of exposure will improve the national side in return for international matches. LFCIA recently joined hands with football agent, David Martinache, for support in providing these kinds of opportunities. This looks very promising for the local talents as LFCIA is looking forward to creating more player pathways for the most talented boys and girls on this island and to provide platforms for them to fulfil their dreams.”

Julie is the premier female talent on the island and as a 16 year old, she has already gained numerous senior caps with the female selection team of Mauritius. She recently made the headlines with the goal of tournament during the Women’s International Friendly Tournament Saudi Arabia 2023. She is a role model for all other female players in the academy and has a bright future in football.

• This is a first for Mauritius as a female player has never played overseas before.
• With the expert assistance of the High Performance Centre Mauritius, Julie is on a 2-month tailormade performance programme under the close supervision of strength and conditioning specialist, Audrey Grancourt. She is also training at the academy on a full basis with the 2008/ 7 male squad.
