Torrential Rain warning for Mauritius

During the last hour, heavy to violent thundery showers are being observed over the Northern
region of the island.

Rainfall recorded during the last 2 hours until 15h00 are as follows:
Port-Louis: 131 mm
Champ de Mars: 106 mm
Pamplemousses: 103 mm
These heavy to violent showers are expected to continue in coming hours and spread in the other
sectors gradually.
Therefore, a torrential rain warning is in force in Mauritius.
Water accumulation and flooding in risk proned areas are expected.
Some useful advices:
1. Avoid those areas likely to be flooded, riverbanks and other water courses
2. Be very cautious when traveling, taking into account that the visibility could be significantly
reduced due to the presence of patchy fog and during heavy showers.
3. In the event of thunderstorms, stay safe and avoid plains and ventures at sea. Avoid using the
phone and do not seek shelter under trees. If you are at home, unplug the electric appliances.
