Labour force, Employment and Unemployment for the 4th Quarter 2022

The labour force increased by 15,500 when comparing the fourth quarter of 2021 to the same quarter in 2020. It further increased by 2,700 when comparing the third quarter of 2022 to the fourth quarter of 2022.

Employment increased by 21,600 when comparing the fourth quarter of 2021 to the same quarter in 2020. It increased by 6,700 when comparing the third quarter of 2022 to the fourth quarter of 2022.

Unemployment decreased by 6,100 when comparing the fourth quarter of 2021 to the same quarter in 2020. It decreased by 4,000 when comparing the third quarter of 2022 to the fourth quarter of 2022.

The number of persons outside the labour force declined by 15,900 when comparing the fourth quarter of 2021 to the same quarter in 2020. It further decreased by 2,300 when comparing the third quarter of 2022 to the fourth quarter of 2022.

The activity rate for the fourth quarter of 2022 increased by 1.6 percentage points compared to the same quarter in 2021. The male activity rate increased by 2.0 percentage points while the female activity rate increased by 1.2 percentage points.

When compared to the third quarter of 2022, the activity rate increased by 0.3 percentage point. The male activity rate increased by 0.5 percentage point while the female activity rate increased by 0.1 percentage point.

From the fourth quarter of 2021 to the fourth quarter of 2022, male employment increased by 13,600 while female employment increased by 8,000.

From the fourth quarter of 2021 to the fourth quarter of 2022, male unemployment decreased by 4,400 while female unemployment decreased by 1,700.

The unemployment rate decreased by 1.3 percentage points from 8.1% in the fourth quarter of 2021 to 6.8% in the fourth quarter of 2022. The male unemployment rate decreased by 1.5 percentage points while the female unemployment rate decreased by 1.0 percentage point.

When compared to the third quarter of 2022, the total number of unemployed persons decreased by 4,000, with decreases of 1,900 among males and 2,100 among females.

The total unemployment rate decreased by 0.7 percentage point from 7.5% in the third quarter of 2022 to 6.8% in the fourth quarter of 2022. The male unemployment rate decreased by 0.6 percentage point while the female unemployment rate decreased by 0.9 percentage point.
