In 2022, the Tourism Authority through its project Sustainable Island Mauritius, introduced the first edition of the Sustainable Tourism Mauritius Awards to celebrate operators who have been constantly dedicated to their aspirational and actionable sustainability goals while also being instrumental to the COVID-19 crisis recovery and prioritising the health of tourists, consumers, and staff.

The first edition was a resounding success in terms of participation and awareness. Over 115 applicants enlisted in the competition.

This year, the Tourism Authority is pleased to present the new edition of the Sustainable Tourism Mauritius Awards 2023, with the commitment to promote good sustainable practices in the Tourism Industry.

According to Mr. Lindsay Morvan, Director of the Tourism Authority,

“This second edition will honour organisations and/or individuals in Mauritius and Rodrigues for their outstanding work in reducing their carbon footprint since January 2022 to date and contributing to sustainable travel. It will also recognise those who are driving environmental and responsible awareness and adopting tangible measures to ensure enhanced sustainability in the tourism sector. We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to all our partners who believe in this sustainability journey and who are supporting the Tourism Authority in this year’s organisation.”

« Air Mauritius is proud to be a partner in promoting sustainable tourism through our ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility. We recognize the importance of protecting the delicate fauna and endemic flora of Mauritius and Rodrigues, and are taking significant measures both on-board and on the ground to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come. », underlined Mr. Krešimir Kučko as CEO of Air Mauritius.

The Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, through its Director Mr. Arvind Bundhun, emphasised that

« the continuous greening of the tourism operators and the destination as a whole, are vital components to attract more responsible travelers, a nonnegligible niche market which is on an exponential growth every year. »
