Outlook for Tropical Cyclone Fabien
1 min readAt 13h00 this afternoon, Tropical Cyclone Fabien was located near 9.0S 73.6E. It is moving in a south-westly direction at a speed of 13 km/h.
Evolution of Tropical Cyclone Fabien
The environmental conditions near the equatorial region is favourable and Fabien intensified further into an Intense Tropical Cyclone yesterday afternoon (Tuesday 16 May), after almost 37 years in a month of May.
The first storm on record, over the Southwest Indian Ocean, that reached the intensity of ITC in May dates back to 1952.
Moreover, in 1986, another storm named Lila was classified as Intense Tropical Cyclone. ITC Lila emerged over the Southwest Indian Ocean from the Australian waters.
The available Numerical Weather Products (NWP) and the output from the RSMC La Reunion are expecting the system to move slowly towards the southwest while weakening slightly. After Monday 22 May, the system is expected to track in a general Westerly direction.
Since, Tropical Cyclone Fabien is evolving very far to the northeast of the Mascarenes, it will note influence the weather over the islands for the next five days.
