A low pressure is evolving to the north-west of St-Brandon and has intensified into a tropical disturbance.

Latest satellite observations are showing that convective activities are now more organised around the low level centre.

The tropical disturbance is expected to track towards the south-southwest in the coming days and pass to the West of Mauritius in the afternoon of Friday 17 March.

Clouds associated with the tropical disturbance will start to influence weather as from tomorrow, Thursday 16, evening causing scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms.

The showers will become more frequent as from Friday and will be heavy at times with thunderstorms. The showers are expected to persist till Saturday 18.

There will be accumulation of water in certain regions at risk on Friday and Saturday.

The visibility will be reduced in fog and during heavy showers in certain regions.

Gusty conditions will prevail in heavy thundery showers with wind gusts reaching 70 km/h.

Sea will be rough in thundery showers. It is advised not to venture at sea as from tomorrow afternoon.

The MMS is monitoring the situation closely and appropriate updates will be provided. The public is advised to consult our weather bulletins.
