HE Mr Haymandoyal Dillum presented his credentials to H.E Shrimati Droupadi Murmu, President of the Republic of India on 24 March 2023. The Ceremony took place at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, the official residence of the President of India in New Delhi.

During the ensuing bilateral meeting, from the onset, I conveyed to the President of India the warm greetings of the President, H.E. Mr. Prithvirajsing Roopun, G.C.S.K, and that of the Prime Minister, Hon. Mr. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth.

Thr discussions focussed on ways to enhance the excellent and long-standing relations between Mauritius and India. The High Commissioner highlighted that the wide-ranging cooperation that has taken place over the past 75 years between our two countries has reached a new dimension, with India contributing to almost all spheres of our socio-economic development. He refered to the participation of Mauritius during the 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2023 which is also a clear illustration of our unique relations and strong people-to-people ties.

The President of India expressed her appreciation that Mauritius has appointed a seasoned diplomat as High Commissioner, which is a testimony of the high importance that Mauritius attaches to its relations with India. She emphasised on the strong and special bilateral relations existing between our two countries and the importance India attaches to the relationship, the effective participation of Mauritius in the G20 meetings, India’s Neighbourhood First Policy, India’s partnerships in economic, defence and infrastructural matters, and the maintenance of security in the Indian Ocean were also refered to.

The high commissioner reiterated Mauritius’ commitment towards supporting India on the regional and international levels. He also reaffirmed his utmost dedication to fostering the existing ties between our two countries during his tenure as High Commissioner of Mauritius to India.
