Les membres du Cabinet ont pris note des recommandations du comité Ministériel sur l’industrie de la pèche. la création de l’Akademi Kreol Repiblik Moris entre autres.

1. Cabinet has agreed to the recommendations of the Ministerial Committee to look into measures to develop the fishing industry within the overall concept of the ocean economy in Mauritius. The various recommendations of the Ministerial Committee to boost the development of the fishing industry as an important pillar of the Mauritian economy and for its harmonious and sustainable development include, among others:

(a) negotiations with EU to be further pursued with respect to Rules of Origin, supply of fish, monitoring and compliance of quota, Fishing Aggregating Devices and Catch Certificate;

(b) better monitoring and compliance mechanisms to be put in place from the Flag States operating in the Indian Ocean to avoid overfishing and to ensure the sustainable exploitation of the fish stocks;

(c) Mauritius should aim at developing a national fishing fleet;

(d) the price of by-catch to be reviewed to reflect the market price;

(e) a Committee to be set up to review the list of toxic and non-toxic fish of the Fisheries and Marine Resources (Toxic Fish) Regulations 2004; and

(f) studies should be carried out to assess the skills shortages and to identify those areas requiring human resources with specific skills and competencies.

2. Cabinet has agreed to the setting up of the Akademi Kreol Repiblik Moris (AKRM) to follow up on the development and use of the Kreol language in the Republic of Mauritius. The AKRM would have the following key objectives:

(a) develop further the orthography, grammar, lexicon, usage and norms of Kreol Repiblik Moris (KRM) as the national standard language of the Republic of Mauritius;

(b) develop and promote KRM as the key medium, component and expression of Mauritian heritage, culture and traditions in its unity and diversity;

(c) commission and publish linguistic studies and descriptions of KRM and its usage, its varieties and registers, its evolutionary norms and standards, while assuring its development as a living and dynamic medium;

(d) encourage literary, non-fiction and scientific writing and promote creative productions in audio-visual, electronic and other formats;

(e) promote quality and excellence in the study, description and creative use of KRM and reward talent and achievement in KRM; and

(f) advise the Ministry of Education and Human Resources, Tertiary Education and Scientific Research on matters related to KRM.

3. Cabinet has taken note that the Ministry of Social Security, National Solidarity and Environment and Sustainable Development would organise various activities to mark World Environment Day 2019, commemorated on 5 June, including:

(a) an official launching of the World Environment Day campaign on 8 June 2019 at Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Tower, Ebene, comprising a cultural programme, the launching of an exhibition on air pollution, a DVD and a song on climate change as well as posters and pamphlets on the negative impacts of air pollution on the environment and prize giving to the winners of the Flower Mauritius competition for secondary schools;

(b) tree planting campaign in collaboration with District/Village Councils and in Youth Rehabilitation Centres to increase the sink for carbon sequestration;

(c) beach and lagoon clean-up at Flic en Flac in collaboration with NGOs;

(d) free guided tours for the general public in glass bottom boat at Blue Bay Marine Park on 23 June 2019; and

(e) nature discovery tours for the general public at discounted rates over three weekends for the month of June 2019, namely at Casela World of Adventures, La Vanille Nature Park, La Vallée des Couleurs Nature Park, Mauritius Aquarium, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden, Domaine de L’Etoile and Ile aux Aigrettes.
