Export Oriented Enterprises for the 1st Quarter of 2019

Compared to the fourth quarter of 2018, total employment in EOE decreased by 1,167 (-2.3%) from 49,866 to 48,699. Some 469 jobs were created in existing enterprises whilst 1,636 jobs were lost due to the contraction of workforce and closure of enterprises.

Employment of Mauritians went down by 546 (-2.0%) from 27,257 to 26,711 while that of foreign workers decreased by 621 (-2.7%) from 22,609 to 21,988.

EOE exports during the first quarter of 2019 amounted to R 10,215 million, 4.4% lower compared to the fourth quarter of 2018 and 3.7% higher compared to the first quarter of 2018. EOE imports amounted to R 6,328 million, 4.1% lower than the fourth quarter of 2018 and 7.1% higher than the first quarter of 2018.

EOE consist of enterprises previously operating with an EPZ Certificate as well as enterprises manufacturing goods for exports and holding a registration certificate issued by the ex-Board of Investment.
