Population and Vital Statistics, Republic of Mauritius, January – June 2019

As at 1 July 2019, the population of the Republic of Mauritius stood at 1,265,985, representing an increase of 0.03% or 408 persons over the population as at 1 July 2018.

The number of live births registered during the first semester of 2019 was 6,670, compared to 6,501 registered during the first semester of 2018. Some 12,860 live births are expected for the year 2019.

Some 5,397 deaths were registered during the first six months of 2019, compared to 5,308 for the corresponding period of 2018. Around 11,170 deaths are expected for the year 2019.

Infant deaths registered during the period January to June 2019 was 93 against 92 for the same period in 2018. Around 170 infant deaths are estimated for the year 2019.

The number of still births registered during the first half of 2019 was 68, compared to 66 for the same period in 2018. Around 130 still births are expected during the year 2019.

The number of marriages registered from January to June 2019 was 4,401, compared to 4,544 for the same period in 2018. Around 9,720 marriages are expected for the year 2019.
