At the end of June 2019, there were 568,879 vehicles registered at National Transport Authority (+2.3%) compared to 556,001 at the end of December 2018.

For the period January to June 2019, some 15,713 vehicles were registered whilst 2,835 were put out of circulation.

During the first six months of 2019, a total of 17,001 road accidents were reported against 14,634 for the corresponding period of 2018, showing an increase of 16.2%.

A total of 30,561 vehicles (both motor and non-motor) were involved in road traffic accidents during the first half of 2019 against 28,709 for the same period of 2018, i.e. an increase of 6.5%.

The number of casualties registered from January to June 2019 was 1,834 compared to 1,763 for the same period of the preceding year. Among the casualties, 40.3% were riders of motor/auto cycles, 24.6% were passengers, 13.5% were drivers, 17.0% were pedestrians and 4.6% were pedal cyclist.

Compared to the first semester of 2018, the number of fatal accidents reported during the period January to June 2019 decreased by 19.0% (from 79 to 64) and the number of persons who died as a result of road accidents by 21.6% (from 88 to 69).
