Décisions du Conseil des Ministres du 11 octobre 2019

Le « caretaker government » a pris note que la date de paiement des salaires pour le mois d’octmbre a été avancée au 25 octobre 2019 et que le 7 novembre, jour de scrutin, sera férié.

1. Cabinet has taken note that the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (“ECOFIN”) of the European Union (EU), comprising the Finance Ministers of the 28 EU Member States, met on 10 October 2019 and expressed satisfaction on the reformed tax regimes of Mauritius which are compliant with the EU tax good governance principles. The Council has also recognised that the reforms have been implemented ahead of the deadline set by the EU. All tax regimes of Mauritius are now fully compliant with the standards of both the OECD and EU.

2. Cabinet has taken note of the setting up of the Licensing Committee at the National Land Transport Authority which would determine applications made for the issue, grant or transfer of a licence, a certificate, a permit, an authorisation, a clearance or a registration under the Road Traffic Act and the Light Rail Act 2019. The Licensing Committee would be chaired by the Road Transport Commissioner for applications relating to road transport matters while the Light Rail Commissioner would chair the Committee with regard to applications for light rail.

3. Cabinet has taken note that in view of the celebration of Divali Festival on Sunday 27 October 2019, the Salary Pay Day in the Public Sector for the month of October 2019 has been preponed to Friday 25 October 2019.

4. Cabinet has taken note that the Acting President has proclaimed Thursday 7 November 2019 as a public holiday given that the taking of poll for the National Assembly Elections 2019 has been fixed for that date.

5. Cabinet has taken note of the outcome of the recent mission of the Minister of Tourism to France where he attended the International French Travel Market (IFTM) Top Resa, the leading annual event for the French travel and tourism industry which provides a platform for tourism professionals, decision-makers and opinion leaders to discuss tourism and travel-related topics, analyse trends and formulate strategies for the next season. Prior to the Top Resa, the Minister attended a meeting of the Vanilla Islands Association (VIO) which was organised to discuss strategic actions for the coming years. The Chief Executive of the VIO presented the report with three main thrusts, namely :

(a) urgent actions to address emerging markets for year 2019;
(b) strategic actions; and
(c) sharing of tourism information in VIO.

The 5th Edition of Les Trophées de l’Art Culinaire du Monde Créole was also organised and Mauritian chefs won four awards.
