EOE consist of enterprises previously operating with an EPZ Certificate as well as enterprises manufacturing goods for exports and holding a registration certificate issued by the ex Board of Investment.

Compared to the third quarter of 2018, total employment in EOE decreased by 291 (-0.6%) from 50,157 to 49,866. Some 795 new jobs were created whilst 1,086 jobs were lost. The job losses were due to the contraction of workforce and closure of enterprises. Employment of Mauritians went down by 444 (-1.6%) from 27,701 to 27,257 while that of foreign workers increased by 153 (+0.7%) from 22,456 to 22,609.

EOE exports during the fourth quarter of 2018 amounted to R 10,686 million, 8.1% lower compared to the third quarter of 2018 and 1.3% lower compared to the fourth quarter of 2017. EOE imports amounted to R 6,599 million, 1.0% lower than the third quarter of 2018 and 11.6% lower than the fourth quarter of 2017.
